About Commissions

A picture is worth a thousand words,
but a painting leaves you speechless.

Thank you for your interest in commissioning Mark to do a painting for you. Your painting options are endless. Choose a traditional individual or family portrait, a montage of your last family vacation or even your husband and his favorite car or motorcycle. Mark’s goal is to work with you to produce a wonderful piece of art you will enjoy and perhaps give as a gift. Your painting will be personally signed and dated by the artist and shipped with a certificate of authenticity.

Mark uses photography as reference for his paintings. Providing more than one photo gives the artist the opportunity to study the subject from many different perspectives. High resolution digital images may be emailed or sent on a CD. Please do not send one-of-a-kind or irreplaceable photographs. Have them professionally scanned and saved as a high resolution .jpg document.

Photo Selection/Photo Session
Please contact Mark if you would like help selecting from your personal photographs or if you are interested in a personalized photo session. Mark’s photo sessions can really add to the overall composition by posing subjects for a painting rather than a typical photograph. If proving your own photos for a painting that includes multiple items such as a classic car combined with the portrait of the owner, it is best to photograph them separately. Make sure to pay special attention to each photograph subject to capture the best composition.

What is Giclée?

Giclée (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. The attainable quality that Giclée printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original artwork. The result is wide acceptance of high quality Giclées by galleries, museums, and private collectors.

How does a Giclée differ from a traditional print or lithograph?
Giclée printmaking derives its quality from its seemingly “dot less” imaging technology which contrasts with traditional fine art prints that typically relies on printing screen pattern dots to reproduce full-range color. Because traditional offset printing dot patterns are detectable to the unaided eye, it is less desirable than Giclée fine art prints for fine art reproduction. The result is a reproduction that is virtually indistinguishable from the original artwork.

Our Commissioned Giclée Paintings are printed on museum quality fine art archival paper. Our fine art papers are a matte finish 100% cotton rag and are not only acid-free, lignin, and chlorine free, they are also pH buffered with calcium carbonate for a true archival sheet. We print our Giclées with a 12 ink printer using HP’s Vivera inks for museum quality reproductions.

The HP 12 ink technology incorporates the new Vivera color pigments, including a new four-level black technology. With the new breakthrough 12-color ink technology, you receive a final print of uncompromising quality. The use of UV glass is recommended to protect your fine art investment for over 200 years.
