Latest Work in Progress: 1965
Mustang & Owner Montage
Here
is a look at the latest commission project at POTTERdESIGNS. The final
project will be a montage of the owner and his pride and joy, a 1965 Mustang.
The Mustang was handed down to him from his Grandfather who purchased
the Mustang new. The portrait design will feature a portrait of the owner
along with a front angle of his 1965 Mustang as well as some interesting
details provided by the owner including the original title, owner's manual
and such.
I
am illustrating this in stages, painting the majority of the elements
as individual items that will later be combined into one final painting.
This
is the first illustration of the owner. You can clearly see the challenges
with this image including general lighting, background and illustrating
the portrait providing the owner a clean shave.
Here
is the next item and the main subject for the composition, the 1965 Mustang.
This work is the most detailed illustration I’ve done to date and
it needed it to be as I knew the owner would check out every detail since
it is "his" car and he knows every inch.
I have included some close-ups that highlight the amount
of detail put into this painting. I wanted the owner to see the amount
of detail I could capture, from the tread of the tires to the piping and
stitching in the seats.
The bottom image is the photo reference I used for a
comparison. You can see light sources were altered and reflections of
the environment were omitted. It was just used to get the dimensions correct
and as a reference for the details. Other pictures taken were helpful
in showing other areas of detail such as the rims and the intricate grill
work.
The next phase is going to be the exciting
part; bringing together the separate illustrations of the owner and the
1965 Mustang and combining them with some other surprises I have in mind,
creating the final painting montage. Stay tuned…!
